The Music Experiments of Tónabær and SATT were first held in the fall of 1982. The number of bands increased as the competition progressed, and when it was time to start, thirty bands were registered to play, although one of them, Hin rósfingraða morgungyðja, was unable to participate.
The following bands competed: Centaur, DRON, E.K. Bjarnason band, Englabossar, Fílharmóníusveitin, Gift, Hálfsjö, Hin rósfingraða morgungyðja, Hivo Pivo, Íslandssjokkið, Lótus, Medium, Meinvillingarnir, Misræmur, Mogo homo, Nefrennsli, Oxsmá, Óþarfa afskiptasemi, Pass, Reflex, S.h. draumur, Sharem, Signultus, Sokkabandið, Strados, Te fyrir tvo, Tik tak, Trubat, Trúðurinn, Útrás, and Vébandið.
